Biography

Professor Michael Böhm MD is Professor and Director for Internal Medicine and Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Saarland University, Germany. He was previously Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Cologne, Germany.

Professor Michael Böhm is a member and former board member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), member of the American Heart Association (AHA) and was elected into the Evaluation Board of Cardiology of the German Research Foundation for Cardiology in 2013. He has also been awarded the Arthur Weber Award of the German Society of Cardiology/Heart and Circulation Research (2000), the Franz Groβ Science Award of the German Society of Hypertension (2002), the Franz Loogen Award of the Society for Cardiovascular Research (2008) and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz, 2012).

His research interests focus on intensive care medicine, vascular biology and pathophysiology, and gene expression in cardiac failure and hypertrophy. He is Chief Editor for Clinical Research in Cardiology, Consulting Editor for Basic Research in Cardiology and serves on the board of Cardiovascular Research, Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy and the European Heart Journal. He also contributes as a reviewer for several journals, such as Circulation, Circulation Research, Hypertension, Lancet, European Journal of Heart Failure, European Heart Journal, JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, and has authored over 600 peer-reviewed original publications.
